Ashland Optimist Foundation

The Ashland Optimist Foundation is the charitable and educational arm of the Ashland Optimist Club. While the Club was founded in 1964, the Foundation was not formed until 1995, under the legal name Ashland Optimist Foundation of Ashland, Missouri, Inc. The Foundation was basically inactive until 2007, when the Board of Directors of the Club decided that it needed a legal vehicle for donations to be tax deductible for donors to the various charitable and educational efforts of the Club.
Mike Dalton, a long-term member of the Club, offered to head the effort to submit the application to the IRS for 501(c)(3) status for the Foundation. After a lengthy process, which involved participation by a number of Club members, the Foundation was awarded status as a Public Charity under 170(b)(1)(A)(vi) of the Internal Revenue Code, and exemption from federal income tax as a 501(c)(3) corporation. This means that donations to the Foundation are fully tax deductible for federal income tax purposes.
